We Believe

The Church, though scattered through the whole world to the ends of the earth, has received from the Apostles and their disciples the faith

Πιστεύομεν εἰς ἕνα θεόν πατέρα παντοκράτορα,

We believe in one God the Father Almighty,

Maker of all things visible and invisible;

and will come again in glory, to judge the quick and the dead.

[We believe] also in one Holy Ghost.

and in one holy Universal (Arian) Church;

and in the resurrection of the flesh,

and in life everlasting.

We believe that each of these is and exists, the Father truly Father, and the Son truly Son, and the Holy Ghost truly Holy Ghost; even as our Lord when sending forth his disciples to preach, said: 'Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.'

'And concerning these things we affirm that we so hold and so think, and have of old so held, and will so hold till death, and stand steadfast in this faith, anathematizing all ungodly heresy. We testify before Almighty God the Only True GOD, and our Lord Jesus Christ that we believe all this in heart and soul, and we now so think and speak in truth, being able to show by scriptural evidence and to convince you that we in past times so believed and preached accordingly.

Having then this faith (from the beginning of the Church and holding it to the end) before God and Christ we anathematize all heretical false doctrine. And if any one, contrary to the right faith of the Scriptures, says the one God of the law and the prophets, but denies Christ to be the Son of God, he is a liar, even as also is his father the devil, and is a Jew falsely so called, being possessed of mere carnal circumcision. If any one confesses Christ Jesus the Lord, but denies the God of the law and of the prophets, saying that the Father of Christ is not the Maker of heaven and earth, he has not continued in the truth any more than his father the devil, and is a disciple of Simon Magus, not of the Holy Spirit. If any one says there is one God, and also confesses Christ Jesus, but thinks the Lord to be a mere man, and not the only-begotten God, and Wisdom, and the Word of God, and deems Him to consist merely of a soul and body, such an one is a serpent, that preaches deceit and error for the destruction of men. And such a man is poor in understanding, even as by name he is an Ebionite, and so also he who says that the Son is; the Archangel Michael and/or consubstantial with the Father and the Spirit a Trinity “three whos in one what” , Unbegotten, Uncreated, the Almighty, let him be accursed. Trinitarianism, Gnosticism, Socinianism or circumcision for the gentile let them be accursed. And if he denies Christ a creation and existence as a living person at the beginning but is a thought only before the world was let him be accursed. Teaching not as the divine Scriptures have handed down as each of the true forenamed creedal statements; and if a man teaches or preaches any thing else contrary to what we have received, let him be accursed.

Ἡμεῖς γὰρ πᾶσι τοῖς ἐκ τῶν θείων γραϕῶν παραδεδομένοις ὑπό τε τῶν προφητῶν καὶ ἀπστόλων ἀληθινῶς καὶ ἐμφόβως καὶ πιστεύομεν καὶ ἀκολουθοῦμεν.

For we truly and clearly both believe and follow all things from the holy Scriptures that have been transmitted to us by the Prophets and Apostles.

This is the Universal Arian faith; which every man should believe truly and firmly.

The Thorn in the Doctrine. Arianism Today

When I first became a Christian I was given a King James Bible with no commentaries and only a glossary in the back. And I thank God that he provided me a Bible to read. Which is where I read most of the Bible, from this King James Bible? I did not get any outside influences for a long time. I only read the word alone, understood what I read and accepted as truth. And I eventually became part of a church and began to hear preaching and teachings and began to understand the Bible from a deeper perspective. But there has always been a thorn in the doctrine of the Trinity in my mind. And every time I read the word especially the New Testament I would always get pricked. And I don’t know how people can ignore this so easily. But these verses would never stop irritating my doctrine of the Trinity. And it does not come out of a desire to prove others wrong. And it also doesn’t come from some pride that drives me to discredit many biblical teachers. But it comes from this pricked or thorn in the doctrine that I can no longer ignore.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. (Gal 1:8-10 KJV)

 

 I take this verse very seriously and quite literally. I want the same gospel that Paul and the apostles preached. And in my desire to make sure that my doctrine and my belief system were in line with the books of the New Testament I had to read them for myself. And discern what the Bible says to me and follow that instruction. So it comes out of the desire to want to be correct according to what the books of the Bible have written. And not to please man, although I’d love my fellow man my brothers in Christ if I find something wrong for the sake of my own soul going to follow what I read. And I’m also not demanding that everyone who reads this book must follow in my footsteps. But that the reader honestly looks at the versus and see if you see what I see. I also ask that you ask God the father and Jesus for Revelation on whether or not this might be true. Because ultimately if it’s God’s truth God will bear witness to the truth as he did with the apostles truths. And I’m not calling myself an apostle but only that God can bear witness to you if this word is truth or not.

The First things that bothered me or was a thorn in the Trinity doctrine was the beginning of almost every book of the Bible, not necessarily the Gospels, but the letters of the apostles. And I will show you what I mean by the following portion.

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

 2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

 4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

 5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

 6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

 7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

 This opening of the book of Romans would convict me and pricked me in my heart, because I know that the Trinity doctrine says that Jesus and the Father are one. But when I read this portion of the Scripture and many others it speaks as though the apostle viewed them as two different persons. If they are truly one in the same why do they need to keep referring to them as two different and distinct persons? So every time I would read this, a thorn would appear in my Trinity doctrine that if I am to understand the gospel as Paul preached in this portion of Scripture he identifies them as two different and distinct persons. And I feel like I would have to ignore that fact in the versus to keep the Trinity doctrine alive. And somewhere in my spirit I would feel that that was wrong to ignore a truth like that. Let’s look at verse three it says “concerning his son Jesus Christ our Lord” just that statement alone makes them sound like two different persons. And I understand that it can mean only a part of God is a Trinity doctrine says.

But I feel like we should not ignore the obvious truth in the normal reading of the word. I could make a statement of any kind and allow people to scrutinize it to the level of theology and change what I originally meant. What I mean by that is that is very possible to lose sight of the plain truth for our own preconceived notions. What I do know is that in these versus their never characterized as one person, which I think must be included somewhere to prevent us from thinking that they are two persons. In other words if we are speaking about something complicated and confusing shouldn’t the writer or speaker make every effort to clarify the truth to prevent any misunderstanding? If we look at the book of Galatians Paul goes into deep detail about why we are no longer under the law. Paul goes into many facets of how he wants to make sure that the church in Galatia does not stumble into confusion. And for some reason know where in the Bible do you see the Trinity doctrine being spelled-out as intricately as Paul does about the law and freedom from the law. I personally believe that this is an indication that the Trinity doctrine may not have been held by the original apostles. And I know that that is a wild and insulting and confusing statement, but I ask the concept of the Trinity is such a hard concept to grasp today why would they not expound on it in great detail when it was originally given? We must remember that these are Jewish Christians coming from a Jewish background, the idea of two persons or three persons being one and the same God would send shockwaves through the Jewish communities. And I don’t see why the apostles don’t expound on such a controversial issue that it would have been at the time of the early church. Are we to assume that the Jewish Christians of that time did not have any problem with understanding the Trinity, and never ask that any of the apostles expound on such a profound truth? It just baffles me that Paul does not included in this characterization of the Father God and his Son. It just seems to me that any time you speak of the father and the son separately you would have to also include clarification that they are also one every single time to prevent confusion. And also to hammer home the idea that they are truly one. But none of the apostles do this. The Trinity doctrine is hard to understand by Christians today why was there no need for explanation during the time of the apostles?

26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

 27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen. Corinthus, and sent by Phebe servant of the church at Cenchrea.>

 Another example at the very end of the letter it makes mention of God and Jesus Christ with no clarification of their unity to prevent misunderstanding that they are not two persons but one. Every time I read this verse I get pricked by the thorn of the trinity doctrine. And obviously I don’t want to doubt the validity of my teachers understanding because they have years on me in understanding. But regardless of my teachers this truth did not go away.

Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

 2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

 3 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

 4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

 5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

 6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

 7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord (1Co 1:1-9 KJV)

 

 This is the next book in the Bible and the introduction I find the same thing. When the apostle Paul refers to Jesus and God they are mentioned as though they are two distinct and different persons. Nowhere do I see any hint of the tri-unity of God. Nowhere do I see Paul in asserting that much-needed doctrine into his description of God the father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We also never see the Jews accuse the apostles of having multiple deities or exaggerating the Trinity doctrine to discredit them, which I would think would be very easy to do since the Jews of that day were very treacherous. But we see no evidence of the Jews using doctrine of the Trinity and its confusion against the apostles ever. I would think that that would be the most used weapon against the church would be the confusion and the hard understanding of the Trinity to breed contempt and whatever else they could to effectively draw way believers from the faith. But no such thing has been recorded.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

 2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. (2Co 1:1-5 KJV)

 

Verse two in this portion shows God and the Lord Jesus Christ as to separate persons and verse three reiterates God as the father of Jesus specifically making the two separate persons. Like I said before in this portion of Scripture there is no qualifying that they are one in the same to prevent confusion. Every time I read these verses the thorn of this glaring omission pricked my theology. Most Christians tried to dimiss the fact that there is no clarifying of the Tri-unity of God in these verses because it’s a readily accepted doctrine, but my problem is that someone other than the bible has to clarify that for me.  At some point I am bound to see the qualifying of the Trinity model somewhere in Scripture right?

Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)

 2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:

 3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (Gal 1:1-5 KJV)

 

This is the beginning of the next book in the Bible. And again they are described as to separate and distinct individuals. As you probably can see I could easily show you from the beginning greetings of every New Testament book that has an opening like this, nowhere is will you find any of the apostles qualifying the two or three as one. This thorn in my doctrine of the Trinity happened every time I read the opening greeting in an apostolic letter. In fact I came to realize that none of the apostles have qualified the three in one model in any book in the New Testament. Of course some claim certain verses do in fact qualify the three in one model. And we will look at those, but what I want you to see is that these descriptions are so vague that they could be speaking of something else. Historically the Jewish people have always understood God as one person in the Old Testament. To now defined God as three separate identities but one God alone is a doctrine foreign to fundamental Jewish understanding about God why with the apostles not include clarification about the Trinity for the Jewish believers? Why not explicitly write about it just once. Why in all the writings of all they apostles, do we never get a full explicit clear statement about the Trinity doctrine? I find it amazing that such a hard deep paradigm shift idea or concept about God has slipped the minds of the apostles in their writings. That’s the thorn in my doctrine, the doctrine of the Trinity. In fact almost every verse that is used for the Trinity has a tiny thorn in it about the difference between Jesus and God. It is a thorn in the doctrine of the Trinity. But it is no longer my thorn because having researched the subject I find it impossible to continue to hold the doctrine of the Trinity in light of all the evidence against it.

So this is how it all began, a constant reoccurring theme of omission in the New Testament Scriptures validating the Trinity doctrine. The anomalies that I pointed out to you in this chapter began to grow the more I read the New Testament. And as I continue to read Jesus and God being personified as to persons every time with no clarification of their tri-unity, I’m finding myself being railroaded into a decision. One choice is to continue with the doctrine of the Trinity and align myself with the majority of Christian believers. The other choice is to be willing to dig further and make a commitment that I would be willing to leave the doctrine of the Trinity if no convincing evidence appears.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Heb 4:12 KJV)
